Yesterday I saw a Facebook update from the IAAF/Cardiff University World half marathon page that it was only 111 days until the half marathon! Well that freaked me out a bit as we’ve done so little running lately, so I decided to make a plan, in the hope that we can roughly follow it and it might motivate us to get back into a running routine!
I’ve stuck with the same formula that Jeff Galloway’s RunDisney training plan’s use. 2 x mid week maintenance run’s of 30 minutes and then a long run at the weekend every other week, with a maintenance 5k in the weeks between. This worked well for us during our Wine and Dine training, so I figured why fix what isn’t broken! Hopefully it will work just as well for us this time around.
Here’s the plan:
As before, the days of the week and the day of the long run’s at the weekend are flexible – sometimes we have plans on a Tuesday or a Thursday or a Saturday, and we haven’t experienced problems shuffling things around in the past so we will continue to do this if needed.
We want to stick with some sort of basic run/walk intervals for this run as well, though we’d like to substantially up the running interval if we can. Perhaps to 5 minutes running and 1 minute walking, or even 10 minutes running and 1 or 2 minutes walking if we can hack that. I know we can both run continuously for at least 30 minutes (Gideon considerably longer), but I’d rather do smaller segments than that to avoid tiring to early on in the race. I think we will have to have a bit of a play around with the intervals in the next few weeks and see what seems comfortable.
Hopefully, with the new plan on paper we can get back into a routine of regular running and finally meet our goal of completing a half marathon in March 2016!
